fixer in the Netherlands

Production service in the Netherlands

Line production, permits, location scouting, and crew across Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and beyond.

Netherlands Fixer provides on-the-ground production service for international crews filming across the Netherlands. We handle what does not travel well — municipal permits, location contracts, local crew sourcing, equipment logistics, and the coordination between them — so that visiting producers, directors, and journalists can focus on what they came to make.

We work with feature and documentary productions, commercial and branded content teams, broadcast and streaming networks, and independent journalists. Projects range from single-day interview shoots in Amsterdam to multi-week campaigns spanning Rotterdam’s port, Utrecht’s medieval centre, the polders of Friesland, and the outdoor water studios of Urk. Each project is scoped and staffed against its actual needs, not a template.

What we handle – media production in Netherlands

Permits and municipal coordination. Filming in Dutch cities requires municipality-level permits that vary by city, district, and shoot type. Amsterdam alone processes roughly 1,500 filming requests per year through its Film Coordinator office, with standard shoots requiring 5 to 10 working days of lead time and complex shoots (road closures, night work, drone operations) taking 2 to 4 weeks. Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht operate their own systems. We manage the applications, the documentation, and the follow-up conversations with authorities.

Location scouting and access. The Netherlands Film Commission offers free location scouting assistance, and we build on that base with our own vetted location database and direct relationships with private property owners, museums, government buildings, and heritage sites. Some locations — Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, the Binnenhof in The Hague, Schiphol Airport, the Port of Rotterdam — require months of advance negotiation and dedicated protocols. We know which ones say yes, on what terms, and how long each conversation takes.

Local crew sourcing. We work with a network of Dutch DPs, gaffers, sound recordists, production assistants, drivers, drone operators (licensed for the specific airspace conditions in each region), and fixers who speak the local city permit language literally and figuratively. Most crew members we book have between five and twenty years of professional experience. English fluency is standard.

Equipment and logistics. The Netherlands has a mature equipment rental market concentrated around the Amstel Business Park in Amsterdam (the country’s oldest film production zone) and additional houses in Bussum, Rotterdam, and Hilversum. We source from the rental houses that fit the project rather than defaulting to a single supplier. Custom rigging, specialty gear, and international kit imports through ATA Carnet are all standard.

Incentive coordination. For projects eligible for the Netherlands Film Production Incentive — a 35% cash rebate on qualifying Dutch spend for feature films, documentaries, and animated films (30% for high-end TV series) — we work alongside the qualifying Dutch producer to ensure invoicing, vendor selection, and spend tracking meet the Fund’s audit requirements.

What to expect
from media production in Netherlands

In video making, especially corporate video production in the Netherlands, you want to have a helping hand that has seen and done almost all projects you can think of. One of the advantages of working with a team that’s part of a global network is reliability.

Netherlands Fixer is not just fast, we are efficient, ensuring you reach your filming goals every single day regardless of the conditions. You can count on our fast turnaround times every single time. Netherlands Fixer operates with the idea of quality assurance in mind.

Commercial video production can be a daunting process to get right. You need fixers from one company, renting cameras and gears from another, finding buses and accommodation from a third, and so on. We are saving you time, effort, and headaches by offering the entire list of services in one place.

We are the one-stop-shop video services company you need here on the ground, in the land of tulips and windmills. If you’re looking for the right service production company for your idea, we’re that enterprise.

The Netherlands as a filming environment

The country works well for productions that value operational efficiency over spectacle. Distances are short: any city is within two hours of any other city by road. English fluency is near-universal in professional contexts. The film industry is compact but deep — Netherlands infrastructure includes sound stages in Hilversum, virtual production facilities in Amsterdam, and Europe’s largest outdoor freshwater studio in Urk, used by productions including Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Visually, the Netherlands accommodates a wider range than international producers usually expect. Amsterdam’s canal belt is UNESCO heritage. Rotterdam offers modernist architecture — the Erasmus Bridge, the Cube Houses, the Markthal, the Van Nelle Factory (also UNESCO). Utrecht carries gothic and medieval textures. Rural Friesland and Zeeland give expansive skies and remote coastal locations. Kasteel de Haar near Utrecht is the country’s largest castle. Kinderdijk and Zaanse Schans hold the postcard windmills, but also work as period backdrops when framed carefully.

What the Netherlands does not offer: mountains, deserts, tropical vegetation, or high-altitude filming. What it does offer is one of the most permit-friendly, English-fluent, and logistically compressed filming territories in Europe, with an incentive structure that competes on rate against Ireland and Belgium.

Part of a global media production network

Netherlands Fixer operates as part of the Storytailors production network, which coordinates fixer and line production services across 150+ countries. When productions span multiple locations — a Dutch shoot connected to Belgium, Germany, the UK, or further — we coordinate directly with our counterparts in those markets rather than routing through third parties. Cross-border logistics stay in one accountable chain.

Send us a brief with your dates, locations, budget range, and production type. We respond within 2 business days with a preliminary scoping note including permit feasibility, initial location options, and a fixer/crew day-rate range. Initial consultation is free.
